The Power of Podcasts: 6 Podcasts for Life and Business

In honour of International Podcast Day on 30th September, which celebrates the power of podcasts, I thought I would bring together a list of my most loved podcasts from my favourite podcasters.

Podcasts have played an important role in my life and my business-building journey in recent years. I found them to be a comfort when I was commuting to London, bringing a spark of joy and excitement to the cold dark walk to my nearest station in the early mornings.

I would often catch myself laughing out loud or sometimes even shedding a tear as I listened to inspiring life stories from people I didn't know and would likely never meet, and yet through the power of podcasts, I got a glimpse of their world and felt connected through shared human experiences. It wasn’t until writing this blog that I realised just how much podcasts have impacted my own life.

  • Whilst battling some of my toughest times managing Irritable Bowel Syndrome I again tapped into the world of podcasts for health and wellbeing tips learning from the likes of Dr. Chatterjee, Simon Hill of Plant Proof, Benjamin Brown (Positive Health Podcast) and Dale Pinnock on his Nutrition Nuggets podcast.

  • Hearing Light Watkins talk on a podcast back in 2006 led me to practice Vedic Meditation years later.

  • Listening to Dr. Will Bulsiewicz share the latest ground-breaking gut-health science on a podcast led me to finally tackle the root cause of my IBS after desperately trying to manage it on my own for over 15 years.

  • Hearing the inspirational story of Nicole, founder of the Self Care Co. on Ella Mills podcast and how she discovered aromatherapy and overcame severe anxiety to launch her plant-based candle-making business has meant I've benefited from and gifted others with her amazing candles.

By the time I knew I wanted to leave the corporate world and launch a business of my own, my podcast library started to fill up with small business advice from the likes of Sara Tasker with Hashtag Authentic, Marie Forleo, Lauren Armes and Vicky Shilling.

Little did I know at this time that I would be launching my very own podcast, Digital (Gold) Dust (you might spot a little podcast plug below 😉) with my trusty podcast co-host Lea Tierney.

This is the power of podcasts.

Wellness with Ella podcast

Wellness with Ella

The Deliciously Ella brand is hard to miss these days, but inspired by her own health journey I was an early adopter of her (actually) very delicious recipes - her first cookbook is still one of my go-to recipe books. Ella and her guests kept me company on many a Tuesday morning commute, listening to inspiring stories of personal growth.

Table Manners podcast

Table Manners

Being a long-time fan of Jessie Ware and her music I was intrigued to find she had a podcast with her mum Lennie centred around food, family and cooking delicious meals for their guests. I can't think of this podcast without being transported back to the amazing countryside of Sri Lanka while on holiday. With journeys between destinations often stretching for several hours at a time it was the perfect excuse to sit back, relax and join Jessie, her mum and their guests at their kitchen table.

Style and Substance podcast

Style and Substance

My latest podcast crush has to be Style and Substance with Fiona Humberstone and Elizabeth Cairns. This is the podcast that I get super excited about every time they release an episode. A hugely inspiring branding and business podcast that I not only recommend to a lot of my clients (especially the episode on The Magic of Muses) but I've also listened to almost every episode more than once THAT's how good it is.

Happy Place podcast

Happy Place

If there's anyone keeping it real in this current crazy world it's Fearne Cotton. Not all podcasts need to be about business in order to help your business. I don't know about you but I've had to (and continue to) work on my mindset, mental health and overall well-being in order to be better equipped to run my business, help my clients and nurture my creativity. Discussing everything from depression and anxiety to full moons and psychedelics, Fearne and her guests explore the ups and downs of life and what happiness means to them.

Just Start Now podcast

Just Start Now

I couldn't have a fave podcast list without featuring Just Start Now by Wellnes Business Mentor and friend, Vicky Shilling. A podcast for health and wellness entrepreneurs and practitioners who want to start and grow a business. Full of actionable tips and inspiring interviews, Vicky gives an open and honest account of what it's like to run a business.

Find the Just Start Now podcast here.

Vicky was also a guest on the Digital (Gold) Dust podcast, you can listen to our chat with Vicky here.

Digital (Gold) Dust podcast

Digital (Gold) Dust

I couldn't write a blog about my favourite podcasts without giving a little mention to my very own podcast. This podcast came about from me and my best business buddy, Lea Tierney, having deep and meaningful conversations about what it means to be running your own business as a caring, conscious, introvert. We are fully-fledged members of the 'slow and steady' club and felt fed up of the hustle culture touted by so many, so felt it was about time that doing business in a more meaningful, consciously slow way needed more airtime.

Genuinely unpolished we want you to feel part of the conversation and at home with us, so make a brew and come join us for more kindred conversations.

We're still in the early days of our podcasting journey so if you like what you hear please do subscribe, like, share and best of all write a review so we can share our gold dust with even more soulful business owners. Thank you!
